Tinian International Airport:

CPA has completed the construction of a new Departure Terminal project but there are certain work items that need to be completed before the building can be utilized.  These items include the installation of a baggage conveyor system, a waste disposal system, existing high roof replacement and low roof waterproofing and repainting of the existing arrival building.  The construction of TSA’s checkpoint area is also anticipated during the additional work for the new departure terminal.

CPA is also working on an agreement for the design of a new instrument landing system as requested by the Tinian Delegation, to accommodate anticipated direct flights into to Tinian.

In March 2005, CPA issued the official notice to proceed for the New Departure Terminal project to AIC Marianas, Inc.  However, the project was placed on hold due to permitting issues the CNMI regulatory agencies.  The project proceeded and in January 2007, a certificate of substantial completion was prepared.  CPA has executed the necessary change order for additional work as well as an amendment for construction management services to cover the time remaining for the additional work.

There are two projects pending the completion of the new departure terminal.  They include the installation of surveillance equipment at both the existing and new terminal, and the completion of the TSA checkpoint area.  These projects will proceed once the new terminal is operational.

In October 2006, CPA issued a notice for the designer of the Passenger Loading Bridge to proceed with the engineering design services for the project.  This loading bridge is to be attached to the new departure building upon completion.  The project was bidded out on May 17, 2007 with three contractors submitting proposals. The proposals will be transmitted to FAA for review and concurrence along with the consultant’s bid tabulation and recommendation of award.

In April 2007, CPA solicited cost proposals from various companies to install typhoon shutters at the Tinian International Airport.  The funds were received from FEMA and the project was awarded to Tae Woo for the amount of $36,400.  The project is scheduled to begin in May and completion is set for September 2007

On May 31, 2007, CPA opened bids for the TIA Additional Airside Improvements project, which consists of strengthening the old runway and converting it to a parallel taxiway, construction of a new standby generator building with generator, and other miscellaneous paving work along with striping and marking.  Three companies submitted bid proposals which are being reviewed by CPA’s consultant.  Upon submission of the bid tabulation, the documents along with the winning bid will be transmitted to FAA for review and approval.
